The Audio-Technica AT897 is a line + gradient condenser shotgun microphone designed for audio acquisition in video production, film and television applications, ENG/EFP, broadcast and field recording. Its short 279 mm length allows it to be mounted on compact cameras while remaining discreet and less likely to appear in the frame.
The microphone’s narrow acceptance angle provides focused sound pickup over longer distances, while excellent rejection of sound arriving from the sides and rear helps deliver cleaner recordings of the main sound source. Its smooth, natural-sounding on-axis response makes it suitable for demanding audio production applications.
The AT897 features a switchable low-frequency roll-off at 80 Hz, helping to reduce unwanted low-frequency noise from traffic, air-handling systems, room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations. It can operate either from 11–52V DC phantom power or a single 1.5V AA battery, providing flexibility in different working environments.
The microphone features an integral 3-pin XLRM output connector and includes a stand clamp, windscreen, threaded adapter, battery and protective carrying case.
